It’s safe to say that in the last week the world has gone into absolute meltdown. Countries are on lockdown, all of the Disney Parks around the world are closed and large populations of people are in self-isolation. All thanks to COVID-19. I’ve even had my own University graduation cancelled.
Everywhere I’ve been turning over the last few weeks it’s being discussed. It’s become quite overwhelming to be honest. The media (who’s job it is to report on the news) is constantly reporting new cases and ways to follow isolation guidelines. But I feel its almost gone a little over the top at this point. To a point where it’s creating chaos in supermarkets and leading to serious fear mongering in our population. There’s articles about a new toiler paper brawl everyday, and supermarkets have had to put limits on items like pasta. What are we coming to? My mum went to the supermarket the other day and couldn’t get any long-life milk! Which is what we normally buy as my mum drinks a lactose-free milk that can only be bought that way. And the reason there was none on the shelf? Someone had bought three trolleys full of it. Like what.
So what am I doing in response to all of this? I’m limiting the amount of exposure I have to people by reducing how often I leave the house. The only times I’m going out are for work (because we all still need to make money) and to help my mum with the grocery shopping. Other than that I’m trying to stay home, to hopefully not only aid myself, but to hopefully reduce the spread and reduce the chances of vulnerable people contracting the virus.
Now changing topics a little… As you may know, I graduated from University at the end of last year, so I thought I’d give an update into post-uni life and what I’m up to. At the moment I’m still working my two retail jobs. This is what I’m currently happy doing, and with the current climate finding a full-time job probably wouldn’t be the easiest feat.
I’m also just plodding along with some blogging work and basically just taking time to do things that I love. I’ve studied for so long that I kind of forgot what it felt like to not have to write an essay. But it’s a good feeling, because I have time for things, without having to feel guilty.
And you know what I’ve discovered? It’s okay to just sit back and take a gap year! It’s okay to not want to work full-time yet. Because what’s most important is that we’re happy and we’re caring for our mental health. Although society might want you to do certain things in a certain way, we don’t need to give in to those pressures. Do what you want to do, because you want to do it!
At the moment I can feel myself going through a phase of wanting to buy everything. I went through a long time of being on a really well controlled low-buy, but at the moment I want to break it. I don’t know if this is because of the isolation, or because I’m just craving to try out some new products. But I’d be interested to know if anyone else is feeling this way at the moment?
I think I might purchase a few extra things like Nintendo Switch games and puzzles to pass the time by. Because the new Animal Crossing launches this Friday and I’m so excited. I’ve never played it, but I’ve been talking to some friends who have and they’ve convinced me to give it a try.
Anyway, that’s enough about the topic that’s currently consuming our lives. Instead, I’m going to share some positive things that I’ve seen over the last few days. I think we all could use it. This section is inspired by @rolly.mag who includes these types of breakdowns in her weekly latte series.
Disney’s Frozen 2 is now available to watch on Disney Plus! It was originally scheduled to launch in late July, but they’ve brought it forward.
Harry Styles performed a tiny desk concert of his new album Fine Line. It’s an absolute masterpiece if I don’t say so myself.
The new Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches this Friday 20th March. Take a trip back to our younger selves.
My friend Laura (@rolly.mag) shared this Into the Unknown video on her Instagram stories and I can’t stop laughing.
There’s even a Tangled ‘I See the Light‘ version as well, which came up as a recommendation.
I’ve also got some recommendations for movies and TV shows that are on both Netflix and Disney+ if you’re looking for something to pass by the time. These are all movies or shows I’ve watched that I’ve loved.
What to watch on Netflix
- Pretty Little Liars
- The Kissing Booth
- Kiki’s Delivery Service (if you like anime)
- To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before – Movies 1 and 2
- The Princess Switch
- Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging
What to watch on Disney+
- Frozen 2
- The Imagineering Story
- One Day at Disney documentary and shorts
- High School Musical: The Musical: The Series
- All of the Disney classics
- Fairy Tale Weddings
I’m also open to any new recommendations from anyone else! I’m currently watching some anime after recommendations from a few friends and I’m loving it. So definitely willing to expand my horizons.
I might start to do these weekly let’s chat posts a little bit more over the coming weeks. I think it might be good to just debrief, and may also help some people distract themselves from reality at the moment. So if you’ve got any suggestions for what you’d like to see let me know and I’d be happy to include them.
